ANTIQUE SHIPS WHEEL CIGAR CUTTER

Antique cigar cutter in the form of a ships wheel mounted on a steering pedestal, probably a gift from the shipbuilding company.

made from brass and engraved FRIED KRUPP, GERMANIA, WERFT A.G., KIEL, GAARDEN.

The cigar cutting blade operates as the ships wheel is turned.

Height: 5 inches / 13 cm.

BRASS SUBMARINE CREST

A cast brass crest for the Nuclear Submarine LE REDOUTABLE.

The French Nuclear Submarine LE REDOUBTABLE or "The formidable" was built in 1964 and had a displacement of 8000 tons and a length of 420 feet. The Submarine was decommissioned in 1991and in the year 2002 opened as a museum ship.

Diameter of crest: 12 cm / 4.75 inches.

A PAIR OF ANTIQUE DOLPHIN SEA SERPENT DECORATIONS

A pair of antique dolphin / sea serpent decorations that are believed to have been removed from a Royal Navy Admirals barge .

Made from cast brass these single sided brass dolphin decorations are very ornate and detailed.

BRASS SHIP'S CREST

A cast brass crest for the American Destroyer USS MACDONOUGH (DLG 8)

The American Destroyer USS MACDONOUGH (DLG 8) was launched in July 1959 and had a displacement of 5800 tons and a length of 512.5 feet. This American warship was decommissioned in October 1992 and was broken up for scrap.

Diameter of crest: 12.5 cm / 5 inches.

ANTIQUE SHIPS TELEGRAPH CIGAR CUTTER

Antique cigar cutter in the form of a ships bridge engine order telegraph and mounted on pedestal.

This was probably a gift from a shipbuilding company.

made from brass with steel and aluminium components.

The cigar cutting blade operates as the telegraph operating lever is moved.

A pair of antique dolphin / sea serpent decorations Royal Navy Admirals barge

A PAIR OF ANTIQUE DOLPHIN SEA SERPENT DECORATIONS

A pair of antique dolphin / sea serpent decorations that are believed to have been removed from a Royal Navy Admirals barge .

Made from cast brass these double sided brass dolphin decorations are very ornate and detailed.


Height: 5.5 inches / 14 cm.

A late 18th/early 19th Century Bosun's starter or otherwise known as a cosh or persuader. The starter is formed with a twisted baleen shaft mounted on either end with a lead weight covered with needle hitched twine and fitted with a lanyard to one end. This type of starter/cosh would be carried aboard ship by the Bosun and his mate and used to hit any of the slacking/lazy crew members on the back to get them to work at a satisfactory pace hence the name "Starter". They were also carried on land by the Press gangs who were tasked with finding new crew members for His Majesty's Navy.

Bosun's starter press gang cosh Boatswains persuader. A late 18th/early 19th Century Bosun's starter, also known as a cosh or persuader. The starter / persuader has a baleen shaft with a lead weight mounted on the end, it is then covered in rope hitching and whipping. This type of starter / persuader would have been carried by the Boatswain aboard a ship. It was used to hit any of the ships crew that were slacking off work or being lazy and this is how the implement got the name starter or persuader. They were also carried by Press gangs who were tasked with finding new crew members for His Majesty's Navy. Length: 12.5 inches / 32 cm.
