Twin rotating engraved brass compass cards engraved Alexander Dobbie & Son, Glasgow & London. Mounted onto a hardwood base with brass plaque with bearing line and stating 'Ships Head'
Brass rotating hinged Azimuth sights with hinged sunshade.

In 1841 the company was established by Alexander Dobbie, in 1881 after the death of Alexander the company name was changed to Alexander Dobbie & Son. In 1896 the firm was incorporated and changed its name to Alexander Dobbie & Son Ltd, in 1902 the name changed to Dobbie McInnes Ltd.
