SHIP'S PORTHOLES 

Welcome to our selection of antique ships portholes. Antique ship's portholes. They come in many different shapes and sizes but they all have the same function, they were fitted to the superstructure of a ship to allow light and ventilation to penetrate the dark and enclosed spaces of a vessel. Portholes were also traditionally known and referred to as scuttles. We have portholes from Battleships, Steamships, Yachts and Shipwrecks.

ANTIQUE SHIP'S PORTHOLE

A large British Royal Navy Battleship porthole.

Opening brass and glass door, brass back plate with twin dog clamps.

Complete with original 30mm glass.



22 inch / 56 cm max diameter, 15 inch / 38 cm glass.

A large brass porthole with a non opening window and fitted with a brass dead light and double dog clamps.

Complete with original 25mm glass.

SHIPWRECK PORTHOLE

A large ship's porthole recovered from the wreck of HMHS REWA which was torpedoed 19 miles West of  Hartland Point on 4th January 1918. She was a 7308 ton hospital ship that was carrying 279 wounded soldiers. Remarkably only 4 lives were  lost during the sinking.

Opening brass and glass door, brass back plate with unique latch style double dog clamps.

20 inch / 51cm max diameter. 

SHIPWRECK PORTHOLE

Antique ship's porthole / scuttle. No.17

A ship's porthole recovered from the Cunard steamship MALTA, which ran aground at Kenidjack Castle, near Cape Cornwall on 15th October 1889. Brass back plate with opening glazed door and complete with hinged deadlight / storm shutter. A unique artefact from this early Cunard steamship.

Opening brass door, brass back plate with single dog clamp. Missing glass. Can be supplied cleaned and polished if required.

A brass porthole door ( backplate was probably made from steel and discarded. It has been re glazed with 5mm glass.

Can be supplied cleaned and polished if required.

These brass porthole doors make great nautical style picture frames.

Opening brass door, brass back plate with twin dog clamps. hinge and dog clamp present for a deadlight ( probably recovered from a shipwreck, deadlight would have been made from iron and corroded away ) Missing glass. Can be supplied cleaned and polished if required.


15 inch / 38 cm max diameter, 10 inch / 25.5 cm glass.

Recovered from a shipwreck.


Opening brass door, brass back plate with single dog clamp.

As recovered from the seabed and complete with marine growth and Verdigris, broken glass. Can be supplied cleaned & polished if required.


14.5 inch / 37 cm max diameter, 8 inch / 20 cm glass.

A very large brass porthole door ( backplate was probably made from steel and discarded. complete with original glass.

A porthole door of this size would make a great nautical side table.


17.5 inch / 44.5 cm max diameter, 15.25 inch / 39 cm glass.

ANTIQUE SHIP'S PORTHOLE

Antique ship porthole / scuttle. 

Removed from a ROYAL NAVAL MOTOR TORPEDO BOAT

Made from bronze with opening dead light, opening door and back plate with four dog clamps. 11 inch / 27 cm max diameter, 6 inch / 15 cm glass.
