A rare transitional antique brass Octant by Imray & Son, London.
An early to mid 19th century navigators Octant with brass 'Tulip' frame design. Engraved on the arc Imray & Son, 89 & 102 Minories, London.
This transitional antique Octant is unusual because although it has a 'modern' brass frame it also still uses the 'older' design peep hole sight that are usually found on ebony framed Octants. Most brass framed Octants use telescopes.
The ivory scale is crisply engraved from -5 degrees to 135 degrees and reading to 108 degrees. The index arm vernier scale reads from 0 to 20 seconds of arc.
This antique Octant is contained within its original keystone shaped hardwood box.
Radius: 7.25 inches / 18.5 cm.
